Things to Do

Looking for somewhere to eat, drink or be entertained? These are our favourite things to do when we spend time down the beach.

First things first, coffee..

1. Blakeaway, Portsea

Ben has had many Magics (strong flat white with the milk 3/4 for you Perth / UK folk) in our 5+ years of dating and this is one of his favourite spots. I will never let Ben live down this time he went to Blakeaway to get a takeaway coffee when I was pregnant with Harper and he came out of the shop saying 'I got you a treat!' only to look in the bag and see he got himself a treat and not me. Shame on you Ben!

2. The Sisters, Sorrento

Also home to one of the best breakfasts in the Mornington Peninsula. Every time we take a seat at this café, Ben looks at me and says 'Chilli scramble?' Predictable, but good.

3. Stringers, Sorrento

These guys are behind some of the best cafes in Melbourne and honestly would be higher on the list if they didn't ghost me when I approached them about hosting our wedding. Food is great and as for the interiors, they make you feel like you're on the coast of Italy.

Restaurants.. there are SO many goodies, you really can't go wrong.

1. Polperro, Red Hill

Ben's not much of a winery fan, so this type of activity is usually for me and the girls. While there are many fantastic wineries in the Mornington Peninsula, Polperro is one of the classics. The bistro offers panoramic views of the surrounding vineyard, an open fireplace and deck facing towards the valley. The European-inspired menu never disappoints, 10/10! The region is on the way to Portsea so best visited on the way or way home.

2. Portsea Pub, Portsea

Where we ate before Ben popped the question! *Nawww* We have spent many afternoons and evenings with friends, as a couple and more recently as a family at this establishment. Whether you want a relaxed vino out on the sun drenched front lawn, or a hearty pub feed in the dining area, the Portsea Pub has it all.

3. Hotel Sorrento, Sorrento

Ben really loves pubs...and you can't go wrong here. If you're looking for a bit of fun on Sunday head up to Salt bar, otherwise the bistro does a mean steak (with a mean price tag too :O)

Get active.. runs, walks etc

If you're like me you can stop reading here, but if you're looking to get active over the weekend these are some of Ben's favourite tracks.

1. Quarantine Station, Portsea

Ben: 'It's hilly, it's hard, got some nice views'

2. London Bridge, Portsea

Ben: 'It's hilly, it's hard, got some nice views'

*No that wasn't a copy paste error*

3. Millionaire's Walk, Sorrento

Ben: 'I dunno'

Cool

Beaches!

Who are you kidding, this is Victoria in summer, you're not going to a beach. On the off chance there is a patch of blue sky, these ones are our favourite. Yes I know Perth beaches are better, but at least you can guarantee you'll walk away with both of your legs.

1. Shelley Beach, Portsea

One of the more chill beaches down the Mornington Peninsula. I'll never forget taking Harper here as severely underprepared naive new parents when she was 10 weeks old. This was when we learnt she could sweat like her Dad. We didn't go to another beach again for 3 months..

2. Portsea Back Beach

One of the not so chill beaches. This is not for the faint hearted. If you want to tackle this beach speak to Craig, you don't want to end up like Harold Halt.

3. Portsea Front Beach

Jump off the pier, have a sticky at the private beach boxes or check out the location where Ben popped the question.
